The wave of salty water knocked Pat off his board. Spitting out the salty water that had forced itself between his lips, Pat held onto his board and waited for the next white-capped wave to pass before he got back on.
The salty sprays of water against the warmth of California evening sun was making Pat's day perfect. And as he surfed over a huge wave, he felt a smile creep up and make his dimples show. It was the perfect day.

Leci strolled alone the beach, her long pale green skirt waving slightly by the wind at her ankles, her sandals in her hand as she walked barefoot. She loved days like this; mildly warm, sunny, a gentle breeze... It was always the perfect climate for a walk. She looked out at the water, her smile growing a bit wider as she spotted a surfer out alone, obviously taking advantage of the beautiful day as well. Oh, how she wished she knew how to surf! Alas, before coming to Danwood, she'd never even set foot on a beach. A simple Southern girl like her, surf? Pfft, yeah right!

Loosing his footing over a big wave, Pat feel into the water again. The surface was beautiful, but once broken, the water was silent and dark and freezing. Frightening. Pat came back up and latched onto his board like a life perserver. He glaced at his watch- he'd been surfing for hours. His concious told him to take a break, but his body told him to keep going. After a couple attemps of riding another wave, his body caved in, and allowed him his break.

Leci was suprised to find herself stationary at the shore, the foam from the breaking waves lofting gently over her feet. Her eyes were focused out on that lone surfer-- she had, in fact, seen him wipe out. Instinctively, her right hand rose to her mouth, cupping over it as she let out a soft gasp. Maybe surfing wasn't as exciting as it seemed! She stayed in her spot until she saw the surfer resurface, a flood of relief filling her body. How terrible it would have been had anything happened to him... Leci wet her lips as she stood there still, watching to see what he'd do next; if he was to come to shore, perhaps he was hurt... Would he need some kind of help? Leci had to be sure.

Pat returned to shore, his arms heavy with a burning pain from simply too much surfing. He held his surfboard under his arm as the water shallowed and he rose from the ocean. The sun shone behind him, making the droplets of water light up like diamonds and glisten as they danced down his body, falling to the sand. He walked straight to a bench nearby, where his towel sat. As Pat dried off his face, his eyes wandered, landing on a pretty girl standing on shore. He smiled, politley, realizing that she was looking at him as well. Pat, afraid he had been looking too long, dried his face again.

When the surfer boy headed over to his towel upon getting out of the water, Leci could tell he was alright. He seemed a bit shaken, but he had all his limbs, and he was nonetheless alright. Her head told her all of this... and yet, her feet wouldn't move. She kept her eyes on the boy, watching him dry himself off, and felt her face flush red when he looked over at her as well, catching her eyes. She must have looked like an idiot, standing there, looking at him... ugh! She tore her gaze away, looking down at her sandals in her hand, a small smile on her face. Then, gathering her bearings, she wetted her lips as she looked back up at him, taking a few steps in his direction as she spoke. "Sorry, I just... wanted to make sure you were alright."

Pat pulled his head out of the towel, hearing the girl's voice. He felt his face grow a bit red as she walked closer to him. Pat smiled at her, falling into her gaze. "Oh." He replied, smiling warmly. "Thanks. I-I'm fine, though."

Leci paused in her walking when he responded, listening to him speak. She smiled a bit at his little stutter and nodded, tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "Oh. Okay, well... good. I just wanted to... y'know, make sure," she said, then laughed a bit, wondering why she was so embarrassed. She looked at him a moment, wetting her lips, then raised a brow, nodding at the school a ways back. "Do you go to Danwood...?"

Pat smiled and threw his towel around his shoulders. "Yeah." He answered. "Do you?"

Leci smiled, nodding. Somehow, his smile had flooded her with a sense of ease. She ran a hand through her wind-swept hair, nodding at him with a pleasant grin. "Yeah. I'm a junior over there. What about you?" she asked, tilting her head to the side a bit as she looked at him.

Pat smiled and nodded. "Yeah." He replied. "I'm a junior too." Pat was quiet for a moment as he leaned his board up against the bench. "So, you been here long?"

Leci raised a brow, looking over at him. "Here at Danwood?" She shrugged, wetting her lips a bit as she though. "Ah... All my high school career. This is my third year going here." She smiled, nodding at him as she took a few more steps his way. "What about yourself? I don't think I've ever seen you before, but I could be wrong..."

Leci smiled a bit wider, raising a brow. "Ah? I was right!" She laughed some, tucking some stray hair behind her ear. "Where'd you move from?" she asked him curiously, sticking her hands into the pockets of her sleeveless hoodie.

Pat chuckled a bit, his eyes falling nervously to the ground. He liked the sound of her laugh, it made his smile get a bit brighter. "London Beach." He answered her, almost forgetting to do so. "It's upstate."
